Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and cousin of singing star Dionne Warwick. The mother of Whitney and Whitney began to sing professionally together in the church of New Hope Baptist in Newark when Whitney was only fifteen years old. They performed backing vocals in Chaka Kans' smash hit in 1978 Im Every Woman. She went on to provide backing vocals for Lou Rawls Jermaine Jackson and her own mother. She also worked briefly as models on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. The year 1981 saw her begin singing in the New York funk group Material. This was her first win in her six Grammys. The Whitney album of 1987, that featured songs like I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to and continued to be a huge success. However, it is The Bodyguard of 1992 that was her breakthrough album and made her one of the top-selling musicians in recent history. Even though the film's and actor's performance weren't much praised, her soundtrack album with her version of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was her top-selling single for several months. The album sold over 44 million copies around the world. It was also in 1993 when she got married Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition musician with whom she bore her only child Bobbi Kristina Brown. At this point her use of drugs became well documented and she started using it daily in 1996.

Dana Bash, also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz, her real name Dana Ruth Schwartz, is a CNN political reporter and anchorwoman.
